Micromax is reportedly
rolling out the much-awaited Android 4.2 aka Jelly Bean update for its
popular HD smartphone, Canvas HD. After previously releasing Android 4.1
update for Canvas 2
smartphone, the company has decided its time to make the latest Android
version available on its high-selling Canvas HD smartphone and we are
glad the company has done so.
According to MMXNewscaster report, the update is apparently available via company’s service center network, which brings the Android 4.2.1 build to the device. Sadly, the update is not being rolled out over-the-air henceforth, one has to contact their nearest service center and check whether the update is available with them and if not, then when it will be reaching their center.

The company has included an
OTA update support in the current software release, which means that
future updates might start happening OTA, which is a good move. The
Android 4.2 update on Micromax A116 brings fix for delay in GPS location
lock and adds panorama shot feature in the camera app. The update also
adds quick toggles to notification panel along with other features like
offline voice typing and performance improvements.
Launched in February this year, the Canvas HD sold 9,000 units on the same day. The company had rough time getting it back into stock and after many delays, the phone is now available across all channels in the country. The phone originally launched for Rs 13,999 now sells in the market at Rs 14,999.
In a related news, Micromax launched its quad-core variant of Canvas 2 smartphone, Canvas 2 Plus. The phone priced at Rs 12,100 carries same specs but has been bumped with quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM.
Android 4.2 is slowly becoming vendor's preferred version and with Android 4.3 expected in the coming weeks, we believe more companies would want to offer devices with the version and even upgrade the existing ones.
