Software
piracy is a term which has been re-invented over and over again. For
Windows specifically, buying things from anywhere will not help your
case and similar to Apple (a less rigid though), Windows wants its users
to have the best products but by paying for them, of course. You might be familiar with free open source software (FOSS) which has made life easier for many Windows users and saved them a lot of space and money for sure. |
VLC Player: This player has to be one of the most flexible and transparent software that comes for free and can be downloaded/installed easily. It basically plays any music/video format that exists on this planet. It is the best Windows Media player alternative and is a lightweight product that runs on Linux as well as Windows.
Mozilla Firefox: Firefox browser comes from the house of Mozilla Foundation and is created by developers that preach FOSS in and out. The browser may be lagging behind Google's Chrome, but the wide array of features have made it a favourite among many.
LibreOffice: Windows users are spoilt for choice when it comes to the Office Suite. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. However, the suite is variably larger and eeks out large storage space. LibreOffice is not more than 200 MB (entire suite) and offers pretty much everything that Office has.
Thunderbird: Another product from Mozilla, this product is alternative to Outlook client service. This product also works on Linux and Windows and caters to all the scheduling, detailing and listing requirement of a working professional.
GIMP: Adobe Photoshop is heavy, pricey (turning into subscription basis) and large in terms of size, that needs one to have a desktop/laptop with a decent processor and minimum of 2 GB RAM (could vary for desktop). GIMP is the best Photoshop alternative that runs on Windows and Linux and while it may not be as appealing as Photoshop ( in terms of design) but it gets the worked done.
